How to Pass Your Pool Inspection Gold Coast on the First Try

Let’s be honest, nobody wakes up on a Saturday morning excited about a pool inspection.
You’ve got a million things to do, and the last thing you want is a pool safety inspector Gold Coast telling you that your fence is 5mm too low or your gate doesn’t click quite right.
I’m Joel Hey, the owner of Get My Pool Certified, and I’ve seen it all.
From backyard jungles to pristine resort-style setups, my goal is always the same: keeping your family safe and getting you that pool safety certificate QLD without the headache.
Passing on the first try isn’t about luck; it’s about knowing what we’re looking for before we even hop out of the ute.
In this guide, I’m going to strip away the jargon and show you exactly how to prep your pool area so you can breeze through your pool inspection Gold Coast and get back to enjoying the water.
🏗️ The Fence: Your First Line of Defense
When it comes to pool fence regulations QLD, the fence is the star of the show.
It’s not just a boundary; it’s a life-saving barrier.
The most basic rule? Your fence must be at least 1200mm high from the finished ground level.
But it’s not just about the height from the outside.
If you have a sloping yard or steps leading up to the fence, that 1200mm needs to be consistent all the way along.
Watch the Gaps
Kids are like little escape artists.
If a gap is big enough for a toddler’s head to fit through, it’s a fail.
The magic number here is 100mm.
There should be no gaps under the fence larger than 100mm, and the vertical bars shouldn't be more than 100mm apart either.

🚪 The Gate: The #1 Reason People Fail
If I had a dollar for every gate that didn't latch properly, I’d probably be retired on a beach in Burleigh by now.
Your gate is the most hardworking part of your pool barrier, and it’s also the most common point of failure.
For a pool inspector Gold Coast to give you the green light, your gate must:
Open outwards: It should always swing away from the pool area.
Self-close: Whether you open it an inch or all the way, it must swing shut on its own.
Self-latch: It needs to "click" into place without you having to jiggle it or lift it.
Be at the right height: The latch release must be at least 1500mm above the ground (unless it’s shielded).
Joel’s Pro Tip: Check your gate hinges. Over time, they can sag or lose tension. Give them a quick spray with some WD-40 or tighten the springs before I arrive. It takes two minutes and could save you a re-inspection fee!
🚫 The Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ): Keep it Clear
This is where things get a bit tricky for many homeowners.
The pool fence regulations QLD require a 900mm Non-Climbable Zone around the outside of your fence.
Imagine a 900mm arc swinging from the top of your fence, nothing "climbable" can be inside that space.
Common culprits we find during pool inspections Gold Coast include:
Potted plants: That beautiful palm might look great next to the glass, but it’s a ladder for a toddler.
Outdoor furniture: Move those chairs, tables, and lounges at least 900mm away.
Trees and shrubs: If a branch is sturdy enough to hold a child’s weight, it needs to be trimmed back.
BBQs and Taps: Even a garden tap can be used as a step if it's positioned poorly.
We want to make sure there are no "footholds" that allow a child to scale the fence.
If you’re worried about a boundary fence, you might need to install 60-degree wooden fillets (tilt-battens) to make horizontal rails non-climbable.

🪟 Windows and Doors: The Sneaky Entrances
If your house forms part of the pool barrier, we have to look at the windows and doors.
In Queensland, you cannot have a door that leads directly from the house into the pool area.
If you have one, it usually needs to be permanently blocked off or the fence needs to be redesigned.
Windows are a bit different.
If a window opens directly into the pool area and is lower than 1200mm from the floor, it must:
Have a permanently fixed security screen, OR
Be fitted with "L" brackets or window locks so it cannot open more than 100mm.
This is a big one for older Gold Coast homes.
We want to make sure a little one can’t slide a window open and climb straight into the water.
🩺 The CPR Sign: A Small Item with a Big Job
Every pool in Queensland must have a current CPR sign displayed.
It’s not just about having one; it’s about where it is.
Your CPR sign must be:
At least 300mm x 300mm in size.
Made of durable, weatherproof material (not paper stuck in a plastic sleeve!).
Easily visible from anyone inside the pool area.
Showing the latest resuscitation techniques.
If yours is faded, cracked, or hidden behind a bush, grab a new one from a local hardware store before your pool certifier Gold Coast shows up.
It’s the easiest point to fix, but you’d be surprised how often it’s missed!

📋 Why Do You Need a Pool Safety Certificate Gold Coast?
Whether you’re selling, leasing, or just want peace of mind, the pool safety certificate QLD (also known as a Form 23 pool safety certificate) is the proof that your pool meets the legal safety standards.
If you’re selling your home, you usually need this certificate before settlement.
If you're a landlord, you must have a valid certificate every time a new lease starts or is renewed.
We specialize in safety inspections for sale or lease, and we know the pressure of a looming settlement date.
That’s why we offer an express same-day certification service.
If your pool is compliant, you’ll have that certificate in your inbox before dinner.
No waiting around. No stress.

Do I need to be home for the inspection? Nope! As long as I have access to the pool area and there are no loose dogs, I can get the job done while you’re at work. I’ll give you a call or send a text once I’m finished.
